Nar Phu Trek Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival Day

Personal welcome at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to your hotel in the tourist district of Thamel. After a short briefing on our trip plans you will be able to go out to explore the local temples and markets. 

Day 2 - Kathmandu City Tour

After breakfast we will tour the city, visiting many of the “City of Temples” historic landmarks including Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and the stunning Boudhanath Stupa.

Day 3 - Kathmandu to Besishahar (800m) by Private Vehicle

Today we drive out of kathmandu to the start of the Annapurna Circuit at the village of Besishahar. The drive is very scenic traveling though the Nepali countryside before winding up into the mountains towards the start of the trail. 7 hours driving.

Day 4 - Besishahar to Bahundanda (1310m)

Our Trek starts at the low temperate altitude of 800 metres. We will walk though the lush green fields of corn and wheat as we follow the river slowly up the valley. We will make our way to the Brahmin  village of Bahundanda for the night. 

Day 5 - Bahundanda to Chyamche (1430m)

Today we will continue following the Marsyandi River up the valley the landscape becoming steeper at the terraced farmland gives way to steep hillsides. We cross the river over a big suspension bridge and pass many waterfalls on todays walk. 

Day 6 - Chyanche to Dharapani (1920m)

Our trail criss-crosses the river as we climb higher up the valley. As we ascend we will notice the a change in the culture of the people with more Tibetan Buddhists influence. We will stay at the village of Dharapani now at an elevation of 2160 metres.

Day 7 - Dharapani to Koto (2600m)

Today we climb up, trekking through some beautiful dense forest until we arrive at the village of Timang high above the valley floor. We will continue following the trail up the valley until we reach the picturesque village and fields of Tanchok where we’ll stop of lunch. From here we have an easy afternoon stroll to the start of the Nar Phu Valley at Koto where we will stay the night.

Day 8 - Koto to Meta (3640m)

We will cross the Marsyangdi River via a wide swing bridge and head into the spectacularly narrow gorge leading up to Nar Phu. The trail literally cuts through rock faces to make its way up the valley and towards the secluded region of Nar Phu. We will pass though beautiful tall forest and small settlements as we follow the river up into the mountains. We will stop at a sacred hot spring that emerges in the riverbed before a final climb up to the village of Meta for the night. 7 hours trekking.

Day 9 - Meta to Phu (4050m)

From the mountainside village of Meta we will traverse slowly up the valley towards the ancient village of Phu. The trail passes buddhist chortens and crumbling settlement while passing through juniper trees and the most beautiful scenery. Ofter the old village of Kyang   we pass though another narrow valley until we arrive at the historic gate to Phu village. Through these gates you will feel like you have been transported back in time as to pass old forts and buildings before arriving at the fortified village of Phu. 

Day 10 - Phu Village & Monastery

We will have the whole day to explore the ancient village, buddhist monastery and surrounding landscape. 

Day 11 - Phu to Nar (4150m)

We will retrace our steps back down the valley that we came two days earlier. Before we reach Meta we cross the river by the most spectacular and beautiful old wooden bridge before visiting the adjacent monastery. The centuries old trail slowly cuts it way back up the other side of the valley until we reach the outer wall of entrance gate to Nar village. As we round the final corner in the trail the fertile fields and hillside village of Nar will be reviled before us. 

Day 12 - Nar Village 

We will spend the day exploring the beautiful village building and its many monasteries. We are now well over four thousand metres altitude so today will also allow of bodies to acclimatise before tomorrows climb over Kang La pass. 

Day 13 Nar to Nawal (3680m)

Today we will climb high up into the alpine landscape to cross the mountain pass of Kangla at 5320 metres. Our trail steadily ascends the valley behind Nar will a final climb up through the rocky terrain and patchs of snow to the top of the pass. From here we will have stunning views of the mountains around us and the valley below. We will take our time to descend directly down to the village of Nawal. 

Day 14 - Nawal to Manang

After yesterdays big climb we will have an easy day today as we descend back down into the Marsyangdi Valley and head towards Manang. Our trail passes the picturesque village of Braga before arriving at the regions trading hub of Manang. 

Day 15 - Manang to Ledar

Our trail starts to climb up towards Throung La pass and we will climb 600 metres to the Yak herders village of Ledar at the elevation of 4200m for the night. 

Day 16 - Ledar to High Camp

Today we climb up the High Camp to put us in the best position to cross Throng La pass tomorrow. It is not a very long climb up the High Camp at 4850m so we will have the afternoon to relax and enjoy the mountain scenery. 

Day 17 - High Camp via Throng La to Muktinath 

We will leave High camp as early to get the best weather and clearest views from the top of the pass. After just a few hours climbing we will reach the summit of Throng La at 5416 metres where we will take a rest to enjoy the views. From here we have a big descent down into the Mustang Valley and towards the sacred village of Muktinath. We will visit the temple of Vishnu that is a very significant site for Hindu’s many of who pilgrimage from all around Nepal and India to come here.

Day 18 - Muktinath to Kagbeni

After yesterdays long trek we have an easier walk today. We will descend down from Muktinath and visit the beautiful hilltop village of Jharkot where we will visit its old Buddhist monastery. After just a few hours more we will arrive in the historic old town of Kagbeni. 

Day 19 - Kagbeni to Jomson

From Kagbeni we will follow the road down the arid Mustang Valley to the busy centre of Jomson. Above us we will be about to see Dhaulagiri being the 7th highest mountain in the world. After our long and exhausting trek you will be happy to put your feet up at one of the small cafe’s in Jomson to relax and enjoy your afternoon before we head back to Kathmandu tomorrow. 

Day 20 - Return to Kathmandu

We will fly from Jomson to Pokhara and then onwards back to Kathmandu. We will meet up for a final dinner together before we have to say goodbye. 

Day 21 - Departure

Transfer to Kathmandu Airport.
